How can I apply? |
| | Funding for projects is available each year during the CDBG Annual Competitive Round. The Office of Community Renewal publishes a Notice of Funding Availability in January for the Annual Competitive Round, with applications due in the spring. Applications are completed and returned to the Office of Community Renewal for review and evaluation. Economic Development is open year round. Top

What is the application process for Economic Development Funding? |
| | The application process consists of a Preliminary Evaluation Process and submission of a formal application. The objective is to work with communities during the Preliminary Evaluation Process to determine eligibility, readiness of the project, feasibility, public benefit, and overall appropriateness of funding. Communities with projects meeting the program requirements will then be invited to submit a formal application for funding. Maximum award amounts are determined by the State’s Action Plan. Top

What is an eligible community? |
| | In general, cities, towns, and villages with a population under 50,000, and counties with an unincorporated area population under 200,000 are eligible to participate in New York’s CDBG Program. Top

What is the New York State CDBG Program? |
| | States are provided with annual grants through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program. In turn, these program funds are awarded to smaller communities and rural areas. Top

What are Strategic Planning Grants? |
| | Each fall, the Office of Community Renewal publishes a Notice of Funding Availability announcing the availability of Strategic Planning funding. Grants are available to communities to conduct research, analysis, and development of a strategic plan that will guide community development efforts locally. The amount is set each year. Top

What is the Economic Development Program? |
| | In addition to the Annual Competitive Round, the Office of Community Renewal provides funds for general economic development activities on a continuous, year-round basis. Eligible projects include those that create and/or retain permanent, private-sector job opportunities principally for low– and moderate-income persons, through expansion and retention of businesses and industry in New York State.
